3 Tips to Stay Positive Through Divorce
1. Stop Chasing Happiness
Happiness will come when you stop chasing it. Stop trying to find better. It will come when you open your mind, heart and attitude to it, but you need to be ready for it. There’s nothing wrong with taking time to figure out your stuff….you need to go through your process without worrying about whether you’ll ever be happy again. You WILL be happy again, but not unless you give yourself time to reflect and heal.
2. Think Long Term
When you’re going through the early stages of divorce, it’s nearly impossible to think long-term. You get caught up in the immediate, and you likely worry about a thousand different things each day. Your life is shattered and you’re scrambling to pick up the pieces. Take some time to breathe and remember that this is a temporary situation…try to think above the everyday noise and remember that the problems of today are not going to be problems tomorrow. As our kids grow and our lives evolve, everything changes. The best advice that my lawyer ever gave me (though I didn’t think much of it at the time), is that everything is temporary. It sounds silly, but it’s true.
3. Choose Your Battles
In the early stages of divorce, it’s very easy to get caught up in the day-to-day minutiae and feel as though everything is a fight. Choose your battles and save your energy for the ones that really matter. As yourself whether the current situation will make a difference in a year from now. If the answer is “no”, then try to let it go. Rise above the noise. If the answer is “yes”, then this may be a battle worth taking on.
It seems endless and insurmountable at times, but time really does hold magical healing powers, but only if you allow yourself time to reflect, heal and move forward.
I wish you all love on your journey.
